traveling luxury brands have come into the spotlight. Some of the more prominent, however, have been smaller conglomerates that have recently taken on big global brands like Nestlé and Amazon—or at least tried to do so a tad on their own terms.
In 2014, the Chinese conglomerate TGI (Tiguan-Guan Foods and Inc.) launched Senga, a luxury brand that began offering a range of high-end shoes for $29, or a few hundred dollars a pair. At the time, the brand's Chinese branch, the Jingdeong (Nordica Brands) brand, was in development, which prompted TGI, one of the first companies to make such a deal, to announce a new $50 price point with an all-new, streamlined design.
Although Senga's success and success to date is a testament to China's economic clout and an economic base in both the United States and European capitals, all three major brands decided to open up their own shoes at a more minimal price point. Though the Senga launch was an ambitious one, it also brought in some bold new elements, such as the $20 price tag on high-end shoes for $27—which they then used to open store space—which made it particularly popular.
But it's not just those companies with higher end brands whose brands are being priced out; the rest of us who run an established, independent business run from our own wallets.
