It's important to note that only three adults will get sick with this type of fever in the U.S., but there may be a lot more in the country. Experts say the outbreak is likely linked to high-level contacts with children, who may find them unwell.
The World Health Organization has not yet seen any confirmed diphtheria outbreaks. It said people should avoid traveling to areas with high mosquito populations to protect from potentially fatal diseases, such as Ebola and dengue fever.
