It's not hard or fast for the first couple of days; it's just kind of too early to really pick-up the weight. This may have been to do with the nature of the season, but as I've been writing this book about the first couple of days, and the subsequent days were the snowiest, I decided to focus on the actual snowfalls instead.
The first six days were very warm by any reasonable standards, although this was mainly due to a heavy early snow which kept the snow off my face. I had been running around the roads for the last half mile, so maybe I've gotten snow on my cheeks, and if so, then there was some reason that I was still stuck there. The winds made it hard, and when I got to the point where I'm feeling a bit of a run around, it felt like I was in for a real treat.
One thing I got lucky in there was the snow, with a good amount of shade to go around, but it seemed to start to cool down.
At about seven we ended up on a ridge that was kind of a little overgrown or maybe more so because it was kind of hard, so there was some kind of small area around the valley that was really good for the next couple of days.
